Chronopost API

Globe Pickup Points integrates with Chronopost, a French parcel carrier. With this integration, you can:
- Export orders to Chronopost directly from Shopify
- Print shipping labels within Shopify
- Ship to Chrono Relais points in France and Europe
- Ship to the customer’s address with Chrono 13, Chrono 18 and Chrono Classic
- Let Globe choose relay point or home delivery for each order
Enabling Chronopost API integration
Section titled “Enabling Chronopost API integration”- In your Shopify admin, open Globe Pickup Points and navigate to Shipping labels. Click Add carrier and select Chronopost.
- Enter your Account number — your 8-digit Chronopost contract number. Chronopost sends it in the welcome e-mail when your contract starts. If you cannot find it, ask your Chronopost sales contact.
- Enter your Password — the 6-digit password that belongs to your contract number, which Chronopost calls the Chronotrace code. It comes in the same welcome e-mail.
- Fill in the sender details: Sender company name, Sender street, Sender city, Sender ZIP, Sender phone and Sender email. Chronopost contracts ship from France, so enter a French address with a 5-digit postcode. The sender address is printed on every label. Sender name is optional; when it is empty, the company name is used as the contact name.
- Under Advanced settings, two optional fields are available:
- Sub-account — fill it in only if Chronopost set up sub-accounts (cost centres) on your contract. Up to 3 digits.
- Default weight (kg) — the default shipment weight in kilograms. If left blank, it is ignored.
- Configure fulfillment and tagging options as needed:
- Automatically fulfill orders — Never, Yes, send order shipped email with the tracking number or Yes, do not send order shipped email. The fulfillment gets the Chronopost waybill number and tracking link.
- Automatically tag orders with tracking number — adds the waybill number to the order as a tag.
- Custom tag after export — a tag added to the order after each successful export.
- Optionally, map your Shopify shipping methods to Chronopost products (see Service types). You can still change the product when creating a label.
Exporting and printing labels
Section titled “Exporting and printing labels”You can export orders to Chronopost and print shipping labels directly from Shopify, either in bulk or individually. For the label workflow itself, see Creating shipping labels.
Each export creates one Chronopost waybill for one parcel. Chronopost has no sandbox: every export with your contract number creates a real waybill. The waybill number is the tracking number, and parcels are tracked at https://www.chronopost.fr/tracking-no-cms/suivi-page?listeNumerosLT=<waybill number>.
- The Shopify order number is printed on the label as the reference.
- Names and addresses are sent without accents, and each line is cut to 35 characters (the city to 30).
- An order without a weight is refused. Set the product weights in Shopify, enter the weight in the label creation panel, or fill in Default weight (kg).
- Globe fetches the label from Chronopost each time you print, so you can print it again later.
Service types
Section titled “Service types”Select the product when exporting an order, or map it to a shipping method in the carrier settings:
| Code | Product | Delivers to |
|---|---|---|
| AUTO | Chronopost (Chrono Relais if a relay point is selected, otherwise home delivery) | The Chronopost relay point on the order, otherwise the customer’s address |
| 01 | Chrono 13 (home, France) | The customer’s address in France |
| 16 | Chrono 18 (home, France) | The customer’s address in France |
| 44 | Chrono Classic (home, Europe) | The customer’s address in Europe |
| 86 | Chrono Relais (relay point, France) | A Chronopost relay point in France |
| 49 | Chrono Relais Europe (relay point, Europe) | A Chronopost relay point in Europe |
AUTO is the default when no product is set for the order. It picks the product for each order:
- Chronopost relay point in France: Chrono Relais
- Chronopost relay point in another country: Chrono Relais Europe
- No pickup point, address in France: Chrono 13
- No pickup point, address in another country: Chrono Classic
Monaco counts as France. AUTO never picks Chrono 18.
Chrono 13, Chrono 18 and Chrono Classic always ship to the customer’s address, even when the order has a relay point, so map pickup-point shipping methods to AUTO, Chrono Relais or Chrono Relais Europe. Chrono Relais and Chrono Relais Europe need a Chronopost relay point on the order — see Chrono Relais pickup points.
Chrono Relais pickup points
Section titled “Chrono Relais pickup points”Relay deliveries go to the Chronopost relay point the customer picked at checkout. To offer Chronopost relay points at checkout, add Chronopost as a pickup point carrier — see Adding pickup point carriers.
- The label is addressed to the relay point, with the customer’s name as the addressee.
- Parcels to a relay point can weigh up to 20 kg.
- A pickup point of another network, for example a Mondial Relay or Colissimo point, is refused by AUTO, Chrono Relais and Chrono Relais Europe. Chronopost cannot deliver there, and Globe never sends the parcel to the customer’s address instead. Choose a Chronopost relay point with the Modify pickup point action, or select Chrono 13 (home, France) or Chrono Classic (home, Europe) to ship to the customer’s address.
- If the relay point on the order has no relay ID or no address, the export is refused. Choose the point again with the Modify pickup point action.
Cash on delivery (COD)
Section titled “Cash on delivery (COD)”Chronopost labels created in Globe cannot collect cash on delivery. Globe never sends a COD amount to Chronopost and refuses to export an order with a COD amount above 0, whatever the product. Orders with a cash on delivery payment method get a COD amount automatically, so they are refused.
If the order is already paid, set the COD amount to 0 in the label creation panel and export it again. Otherwise, ship the order with a carrier that supports COD.
Label printing
Section titled “Label printing”Labels are created in Chronopost’s thermal format, and Globe lays them out when you print, so you choose the format each time you print:
| Format | Positions per sheet |
|---|---|
| 10x15 cm | 1 |
| A6 on A4 | 4 |
10x15 cm is the default: each label gets its own 10×15 cm page, for thermal printers. A6 on A4 puts four labels on an A4 sheet in a 2×2 grid. You can select the starting position on the sheet (positions 1–4) to reuse a partly used sheet.
If Chronopost does not return some labels of a batch, the others are printed and Globe shows how many are missing.
Troubleshooting
Section titled “Troubleshooting”| Issue | Resolution |
|---|---|
| Chronopost settings are incomplete | Account number needs 8 digits and Password must be filled in. A Sub-account, if used, has up to 3 digits. |
| Chronopost sender address is incomplete | Fill in Sender company name, Sender street, Sender city and Sender phone, and enter a 5-digit Sender ZIP. |
| Chronopost rejected the account number or password | Check Account number and Password in the carrier settings. If this happens while printing, the waybill already exists: fix the login and print again, without creating the label again. |
| The pickup point is not a Chronopost relay point | The order has a point of another network. Choose a Chronopost relay point with the Modify pickup point action, or select Chrono 13 (home, France) or Chrono Classic (home, Europe) to ship to the customer’s address. |
| The order has no Chronopost relay point | Chrono Relais and Chrono Relais Europe deliver to relay points only. Add a relay point with the Modify pickup point action, or choose a home delivery product. |
| The relay point has no relay ID or no address on the order | Choose the relay point again with the Modify pickup point action. |
| The order has no weight | Set the product weights in Shopify, enter the weight in the label creation panel, or fill in Default weight (kg) in the carrier settings. |
| The order weighs more than 20 kg | Chrono Relais and Chrono Relais Europe take parcels up to 20 kg. Check the shipment weight. |
| Chronopost labels from Globe cannot collect cash on delivery | If the order is already paid, set the COD amount to 0 and export again. Otherwise, use a carrier that supports COD. See Cash on delivery (COD). |
| Unknown Chronopost product | Pick a Chronopost product in the shipping method mapping. |
| Chronopost did not answer in time, the connection broke off, or Chronopost did not confirm the waybill | The waybill may already exist. Check your Chronopost account before you create the label again. Globe does not retry on its own. |
| Globe could not connect to Chronopost | Nothing was created. Try again in a minute. |
| Chronopost created a waybill, but Globe could not save it | The label cannot be printed in Globe. Do not create it again, or Chronopost will create a second waybill. Get the label for that waybill number from Chronopost. |
Other errors starting with Chronopost: | The message and its code come from Chronopost. Code 38 means Chronopost has no route for the recipient’s country and postcode: check the shipping address. |
| The carrier will not issue this label | Chronopost refused to return the label. Get it from Chronopost. Changing the label format does not help. |
| The carrier did not return the label | Chronopost did not answer. Print again in a moment. The waybill already exists, so do not create the label again. |
| Some labels could not be printed | The other labels are on the sheet. If Chronopost did not answer, print the batch again. A label Chronopost refused can only be printed from Chronopost. |
| Label could not be prepared for printing | The label exists; only this format could not be prepared. Try the other label format. |
