Pick & Ship packing station

Pick & Ship is a packing station inside Globe. It lists the orders waiting to be packed, checks every item with a barcode scanner, and creates and prints the shipping label on the same page.

Pick & Ship is in beta and off by default. Turn it on if you pack your own parcels. If a 3PL or a WMS packs for you, leave it off.

In Globe, open Settings and tick Turn on Pick & Ship in the Pick & Ship section. Pick & Ship then appears in the app menu. New stores can also turn it on from the setup guide on the Globe home page.

Unticking it hides Pick & Ship from the menu. Nothing about your orders changes.

The queue lists unfulfilled orders, newest first, like the Orders page in Shopify.

  • Tabs: Not packed, Packing, Packed, Missing pickup point and All.
  • Filters: tags (with and without), creation date, delivery, label status and, when your orders ship from more than one location, location. The filters are kept in the page address, so a filtered queue can be bookmarked.
  • Search finds an order by its number.
  • Columns: payment status (COD orders show the amount to collect), packing status, items, delivery method, pickup point and label status.

An order missing its pickup point has a Select pickup point button right in the row.

Select orders to:

  • Pack selected: the station opens the selected orders one after another.
  • Mark as packed: every item left to ship is marked packed without scanning. Orders another device has open and cancelled orders are skipped. Not available when the item check is Strict.
  • Undo packing, Add tag and Remove tag.

Click Start packing, click an order, or scan its order number. The station shows the order like the order page in Shopify: the items to pack, the shipping label, the history, and the notes, customer and tags on the side.

Scan each item by its EAN or SKU. Each scan adds one unit, the progress bar fills and the item turns green once all its units are packed. A wrong item, or one more unit than the order has, gets an error sound and a message. You can also type a code into the field, or use + and − next to the item.

  • Items without a barcode or SKU are added with +, or counted as packed automatically if you choose so in the settings.
  • Split orders. Items are grouped by fulfillment, each with its delivery method, location, weight and declared value.
  • Digital items and gift cards are listed apart and are not packed.
  • One location. With the queue filtered to a location, the station packs only that location’s items. The rest of the order is shown for reference, and the order counts as packed once every location has packed its part.
  • Mark as packed at the bottom of the card packs the rest by hand. Whether it is there depends on the item check.

When the last item is packed, Globe checks the order in Shopify once more. If it was cancelled or its items changed while you were packing, the station tells you and does not mark it packed.

While an order is open on one device, any other device sees who is packing it and cannot change it. Take over moves the order to your device.

The order’s Globe pickup point is shown above the items, with Change. An order has one pickup point: all its parcels go there, a split order included.

Select pickup point and Change open the same list of points as the order page in Shopify, sorted by distance from the customer’s address. Saving runs the usual updates: tags, order note, attributes and Flow.

The label card preselects the carrier and product the same way as Create shipping label on the order page, and fills in the weight, declared value and the amount to collect for COD orders. Advanced lets you change them for this label.

After the last item is packed, press Enter (or click Create and print label). Globe creates the label and the browser’s print dialog opens with it. Print again reprints it, View PDF opens it in a window, Create another label adds a second one.

  • One label per order or per fulfillment. As set in Globe Settings → Advanced settings → Shipping labels. Per fulfillment, each fulfillment group gets its own label form with its own weight, value and share of the COD amount. Enter creates all missing labels at once.
  • PPL issues its label a few seconds after the export. The station waits and prints it once it is ready.
  • Preflight. The same checks as on the order page run before the export, such as a missing phone number or a pickup point the carrier does not serve.

The label step is skipped for orders that do not ship in a parcel, such as local delivery or store pickup.

Packed is the station’s own status and does not depend on fulfillment. If a Flow creates the label and fulfills the order when it arrives, the order still waits in the queue until it is packed.

  • Orders fulfilled since you turned Pick & Ship on are listed, for 14 days at most. Orders fulfilled earlier are not.
  • Scan the printed label to open its order. The station finds the order by the label’s tracking number, including DPD barcodes that hold more than the parcel number.
  • An order that already has its label skips the label step: Enter goes to the next order.

Any USB or Bluetooth barcode scanner that types like a keyboard works. The station listens to it on the whole page, no field needs to be focused.

The keys are shown at the bottom of the station. On a computer without a scanner, turn Barcode scanner off in the settings so the keyboard works normally.

Open Settings in Pick & Ship.

  • Item check
    • Strict: every item is scanned or added with +. The order completes with its last item, there is no Mark as packed.
    • Ask first: Mark as packed packs the rest by hand after a confirmation.
    • Off: Mark as packed packs the rest by hand at once.
  • Items without barcode or SKU: confirm them by hand, or count them as packed.
  • Tag after packing: added to the order once it is packed, and removed if the order is opened again. Leave empty for no tag.

  • Barcode scanner: turn it off on a computer without a scanner.
  • Sounds on this device.

The History card shows what happened to the order, by day: packing started, packed (by scan, by hand or in bulk), pickup point changes, labels created and printed, and the order’s own Shopify timeline.
