UPS API

Globe Pickup Points integrates with UPS, a worldwide parcel carrier, enabling order export and shipping label printing directly from Shopify. With this integration, you can:

  • Export orders to UPS directly from Shopify
  • Print shipping labels within Shopify
  • Ship 15 UPS domestic, European and worldwide services
  • Send international parcels with customs data generated automatically from your Shopify products

UPS is enabled per store on request. If you do not see UPS in the carrier list, contact Globe support and we will enable it for your store.

  1. In your Shopify admin, open Globe Pickup Points and navigate to Shipping labels. Add a new carrier and select UPS.
  2. Enter your Account number — your UPS shipper account number, shown in your UPS billing account details.
  3. Fill in the sender details: Sender name, Sender street, Sender city, Sender ZIP, Sender country and Sender phone. Sender email is optional.
  4. Sender state/province is a state or province code (for example NY, CA). It is required when shipping from the United States or Canada and can be left empty elsewhere.
  5. Click Connect UPS Account. A UPS window opens where you sign in with your UPS credentials and authorise Globe. Once you return, the connection is stored and the access token is refreshed automatically — you do not need to enter an API key or password anywhere.
  6. Configure fulfillment and tagging options as needed.
  7. Map your Shopify shipping methods to the UPS services you have on your account.

You can disconnect the UPS account at any time from the same screen; exporting is blocked until it is connected again.

You can export orders to UPS and print shipping labels directly from Shopify, either in bulk or individually. For the label workflow itself, see Creating shipping labels.

Each shipment receives a UPS tracking number, and the label image is stored with the order so it can be reprinted later without contacting UPS again. If Globe no longer has the stored image, it is fetched back from the UPS label recovery service using the tracking number. Parcels are tracked at https://www.ups.com/track?tracknum=<tracking number>.

Not every service is available on every account or from every origin country — UPS rejects a shipment using a service your account is not contracted for.

UPS labels created in Globe are always addressed to the customer’s home or business address taken from the Shopify order. Delivery to UPS Access Point locations is not supported — a pickup point selected at checkout is not transmitted to UPS, and the parcel will be delivered to the shipping address instead. Do not map a pickup point shipping method to a UPS service. Return labels are also not supported.

These options are set per shipment in the export dialog. They are not carrier settings — the UPS carrier account has no place to store defaults for them, so set them on the shipments that need them.

OptionDescription
Packaging typeCustomer Supplied Package (default), UPS Letter, Tube, PAK, UPS Express Box, UPS 25KG Box, UPS 10KG Box
Content descriptionShipment description printed on the label and used on customs forms. Defaults to Goods.
HS codeHS code used on the customs forms of that shipment, when a product has no HS code in Shopify.

Customs forms (a commercial invoice) are added automatically when the sender country and the destination country differ and the shipment is not an intra-EU movement. Globe builds the invoice from the order line items:

  • Product title, quantity, unit price and SKU
  • HS code from the product’s Shopify inventory item, falling back to the HS code entered for that shipment in the export dialog
  • Country of origin from the product’s Shopify inventory item, falling back to the sender country
  • Item weight from Shopify, converted to the shipment weight unit

The invoice number is the Shopify order number, the reason for export is SALE, and the currency is the order currency. Weights are sent in kilograms, except for senders in the United States, Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands, where pounds are used.

UPS does not support cash on delivery in Globe. No COD amount is sent to UPS, so a COD order exported to UPS ships as an ordinary prepaid parcel and no money is collected on delivery. Use a carrier that supports COD for those orders, or switch the customer to a prepaid payment method before exporting.

The UPS integration does not sync delivery statuses back to Shopify. The tracking number and tracking link are still attached to the fulfillment (when automatic fulfillment is enabled), so delivery progress can be followed on ups.com.

UPS returns a 4×6 inch label image, which Globe converts to PDF and rotates to portrait for printing. The following formats are available:

FormatPositions per sheet
A61
A6 on A44

When printing A6 labels on A4, you can select the starting position on the sheet (positions 1–4) to reuse partially used sheets.

IssueResolution

UPS authentication failed — token may have expiredThe stored UPS authorisation could not be refreshed. Disconnect and connect the UPS account again.
Invalid or expired session during connectingThe UPS sign-in must be completed within 10 minutes. Close the window and start the connection again.
Shipment creation failed with a UPS messageThe message comes straight from UPS. Most often the service is not enabled on your account, the recipient address is incomplete, or the account number does not match the sender address.
Missing or invalid state/provinceUS and Canadian senders and recipients need a valid state or province code. Fill in Sender state/province and check the customer’s address.
No labels could be retrieved from UPSThe stored label image is missing and label recovery failed. Check that the shipment has a tracking number and that the UPS account is still connected.
COD order delivered without collecting moneyExpected — UPS shipments in Globe are never COD. See Cash on delivery (COD) above.
